publications: designer series

Jessica Walsh is a well-known graphic designer, working alongside the likes of Paula Scher and Stefan Sagmeister. Walsh opened her own design firm, &Walsh, in 2019 after leaving Sagmeister & Walsh and has made her mark on the design community. A Connecticut native, Jessica Walsh is somewhat of a ‘hometown hero’ to me, and has been one of my biggest inspirations along my graphic design journey.

research

Jessica Walsh has said working at Print magazine helped her develop her personal style— bold, colorful, eclectic. As with the other designer publications, I wanted to channel Walsh’s energy for this project.

I gathered inspiration from her works and one color palette stuck with me from the start. I went through typefaces and started to build my theme for the publication based around her work.

Combining my style with Walsh’s came naturally. While I tried a few different paths, I always circled back to the color palette that stuck out to me first.

This collection by Sagmeister and Walsh, an ad campaign for Aïzone, truly displays Walsh’s pop-art style. Described as ‘psychedelic and constructivist worlds,’ this series spoke to me from the beginning.

These colors paired with my type choices blended beautifully together to create a stunning spread dedicated to Jessica Walsh.
