medsembly

Medsembly is a networking app that allows students and professionals in the field of medicine to feasibly meet and connect. We facilitate mentorship, create opportunity, and build community in healthcare by offering exclusive resources, workshops, mentorship services, and more. Our all-new app launched in April 2022 at the Atlanta Tech Village in Atlanta, GA.

branding

Type, color, logo variations, graphic elements— having a full brand suite helps keep your brand consistent. Founder and CEO Rodeline Joseph recruited me to rebrand Medsembly and join the team as the in-house Graphic Designer and Social Media Manager. Rodeline wanted to keep our branding simple yet sophisticated, while remaining welcoming and youthful. We decided to use the rod of caduceus, as it is the universal symbol of medicine, and a color palette consisting of red, grey, and white, as the color red often portrays life and health. I created a primary logo and a sub mark, along with social icons and a style guide, to complete the branding suite.

motion graphics

One of the first projects the Medsembly team worked on together was our team introduction. We brainstormed ideas about how we could introduce ourselves in a fun way while showing who we are and what we do, and the idea for a sitcom-themed video came to fruition. I wrote a script, let each person know what I needed from them, and began creating!

This video was created using After Effects and mimicked the opening credits for ‘Family Matters,’ a sitcom from the late 80s and early 90s. This creative introduction laid the foundation for our social media launch.

In addition to this fun team-building exercise, I’ve since created several other social posts that include works of motion graphics from giveaways to app tutorials and beyond.

social media

As the social media manager, it’s my job to create eye-catching and informative graphics for our social channels. In order to remain consistent, I created a post schedule and templates.

On the Medsembly Instagram page, I share 3-5 relevant posts on our story per day, and between 4-7 posts on our feed per week. We have several running themes, including Motivation Monday and Wisdom Wednesday. We also post practice questions every weekday on our story, which are then summarized in our Saturday Summary posts.

Our stories usually consist of our daily questions, resources from the medical community, student and professional features, and shadowing and career opportunities. Our goal is to be a reliable resource for our followers.

Our social media hard launch took place on November 22nd, 2021, but we began interacting with the community through stories, comments, and messaging months in advance. This presence allowed us to build a solid rapport with our existing follower base and expand into new areas.

Upcoming plans for social media include expanding our current accounts, launching a TikTok page, and hosting our own virtual workshops and events. We would also like to create a podcast featuring established physicians as an additional resource for students.

In addition to social media graphics, I also served as the sole designer on the Medsembly mobile application.

Our old app was created by our founder, Rodeline, using Glide. Glide allowed us to launch the Medsembly ‘app’ in a web browser. The old app had 700+ users that interacted daily through messaging and discussion forums. Using the Medsembly Glide app allowed us to determine the best way to integrate features that make our app unique through user testing. From this initial app, I mapped out pages and created user flows, built wireframes, and began designing!

From concept to prototype, from Test Flight to the App Store, working on this app has been a humbling learning experience. Holding the responsibilities of an entire team in the palm of my hands, I truly feel I have come a long way since the start of this project, and I’m excited to continue making improvements and introducing new experiences to our users.

The newly-designed Medsembly app launched in the App Store and the Google Play store in April 2022. Our goal is to connect students and professionals in medicine— facilitating mentorship, creating opportunity, and building community in healthcare.
